The Baby Body

My daughter will be two months old this Friday. I'm not sure what I expected my body to look like at this point, but I think it was something like Heidi Klum's when she walked the VS runway 8 weeks after having her son. A girl can dream can't she? Needless to say, mine doesn't resemble that.
I got up to 182 pounds while pregnant with my daughter, and for a girl of 5'4" that's pretty significant. Everywhere I looked I was confronted by images of pregnant celebrities whose waists, thighs, and arms all dwarfed in comparison to mine. I began to feel self conscious when I went out and guilty when I stepped on the scale at the doctor's office. At one appointment, the OB told me flat out that I was fat and I broke down in tears. I came home that day determined to not eat for the duration of my pregnancy. I kept up this ridiculous regime for three days, when at that point I got light headed and fell, sending my very pregnant self into the emergency room for monitoring. I was released later that night, but not before learning a very important lesson; the well being of myself and my daughter come before anyone's idea of how thin I should be... including my own.
This morning at my doctor's appointment I weighed 147 pounds, and the stomach in the picture is mine. This means that 1.) I weigh more than Nicole Richie and 2.) no one is going to want to see me in lingerie except my husband. You know what? I am more than okay with both=). I think I'll be having a mocha WITH whip today.

  1. Hey! Your belly and my belly could be twins! I also am 5'4 - and topped out at 184 with Connor (my 1st) then stayed at about 145lbs the whole time I nursed. You know what though - once i weaned the weight came off. Love that whip and make sure you eat enough while nursing. =) You need at least 9 months to even think about being back to normal - I swear. Plus, it took me time, but I am pre-both babies weight. So just enjoy her now and remember hubby thinks anything having to do with you is sexxy. =)

  2. Don't rush it Katy. It is so tough, though. Ignore those crazy celebrity pics--they have personal trainers, dieticians, and nannies watching their kids so they can sleep. In the real world, we just do our best. Just try to exercise at least 3 times a week and watch your portions. But--when you're nursing--EAT! (I am still trying to get over my habit of eating like I'm nursing LOL! It's been like 2 1/2 years since I nursed!!

You will get back to normal at the right time. In the mean time, you are BEAUTIFUL. All your pics show a beaming, lovely mommy. :)

As for the tummy...some things will never be the way they used to be...I've learned to accept it. :)

  3. I think you look great! Nothing in Hollywood is real.

I read somewhere that Kate Hudson lost 60 pounds of baby weight by going to the gym EVERY DAY for two months, riding the bike for 3 hours with tears streaming down her face because it hurt so much.

I'm sure Heidi Klum left the babe with a nanny and hit up the gym for five hours a day. Not realistic. Leads to a skinny mommy, but not a happy mommy, that's for sure!
